Dr. Chanjuan Chen is a designer, art educator, and creative contributor to the field of art and design. She works as an Associate Professor in the Department of Design at the University of North Texas (UNT). Dr. Chen joined UNT after teaching as an Assistant Professor in the School of Fashion Design and Merchandising at Kent State University. She holds a B.F.A. in Fashion Design and engineering, an M.F.A. in Design, and a Ph.D. in Art Education. In addition to teaching, she also has industry experience working as a fashion designer, technical designer, and graphic designer. 

Dr. Chen’s creative activity is focused on bringing awareness to social and environmental issues through wearable art pieces and design innovation. Each of her work embodies messages about sustainability, equality, and/or justice, blending aesthetics with activism to raise awareness and engage audiences beyond traditional fashion contexts. 

Additionally, Dr. Chen’s research is deeply rooted in innovation and collaboration. She believes in the power of bringing diverse perspectives and skills together to tackle complex real-world challenges. From grants to interdisciplinary collaborations, her work bridges design, technology, and education to explore how emerging tools like generative AI can transform creative practices and learning environments.
